Iž is an island between Ugljan and Dugi otok surrounded by a dozen islets, located 14 nautical miles from Zadar. Its beauty is known only to a small number of adventurers and sailors, lovers of pure, untouched nature, those who want to escape "to the end of the world" and enjoy solitude.
The island is 12.5 km long, 2.7 km wide, with an area of 17.59 km2.
The length of the indented coastline is 35.1 km. There is no mass tourism. You will find something here that only hidden islands can offer you - absolute peace. And what we have all surely forgotten, namely the people who make every place special.
Here, where you get to know all the beauty and culture in two days, the most valuable thing you will get is certainly the hospitality of the locals.
The traditional occupations of the population, fishing and agriculture, are a guarantee of good local food that is offered in restaurants, and the daily boat connection with Zadar makes it easily accessible even for families with smaller children.
The centre of the island, Veli Iž, lies in a gentle bay on the north-eastern side of the island. Even today, it exudes the original and traditional rhythm of island life.
Olive growing, fishing and seafaring are the most common occupations of its small population. In the centre of the town is the restored church of St. Peter, a cultural centre, an ethnographic collection, several authentic taverns, restaurants and cafés, a shop and post office, a clinic, a hotel and a modern marina.
